The island of Lefkas (also known as Lefkada) is unquestionably one of the most beautiful islands in the Ionian Sea on the western coast of Greece. Not so hectic as Corfu, not as sleepy as others, it is the ideal combination for relaxing days with beautiful beaches, quiet bays, lively small island towns and villages and friendly people. Lefkascity is suitable for all kind of purchases. From simple supply in various supermarkets and innumerable fruit and vegetable shops, to the solution of technical problems or also for the medical emergency (also for animals !!) .. everything is available!
There are specialists of any kind as well as a small hospital, a somewhat larger hospital is located in Preveza; in difficult cases the university clinic in Ioannina is recommended. German and Austrian skippers buy on arrival at the local Lidl, which can be reached quickly by taxi from the marina. A bit more extensive is however the AB supermarket, which one find at the southern end of the marina near the busstation.
In addition, the island is easy to reach for sailors, which come by their own car (very many Austrians and Italians, for example) by the land-connecting bridge . Previously, water sports enthusiasts in Lefkascity were only able to moor at the city pier, which offered no supplies, but also costed nothing. (With some luck you could buy water from fishermen or charter companies ...)
These times are long gone, today the sailors meet in the big Lefkasmarina with over 650 berths, which is excellently managed and has many loyal regular customers.

she offers
  • Secure berths at winds from all quadrants, of course, all with water and electricity
  • Guarded parking within the marina, sailors who travel with a camper can also rent a parking space for this
  • 24h security service with emergency number
  • Modernized toilets with showers and WCs
  • Laundry facilities
  • Gas ??station
  • Shipchandler and service companies
  • Restaurants and bars as well as marina supermarket, open approximately from Easter to ca October
  • Offices of various charter companies

There is also a conference center and a hotel on the marinas area The marina stuff, starting from manager Spiros Dallos and his ladies from the office to the Marineros is very friendly, and one tries to fulfill all wishes Sailmakers and more can be found in the marina, as well as in the surrounding town or in Nidri, a small island town characterized mainly by English tourists. Likewise, here as well as there are mechanics and electrical companies, more detailed can be found at the POIs on this page.
The marina is not "dead" even in winter, nor is the city. There are always some cruising sailors in the cooler months on their boats, which makes for a lively "social life". There is a variety of activities organized by the sailors themselves, a lively exchange of books, singing group, gym, regular meetings in bars and celebrations on Christmas and New Year's Eve. When approaching the marina you should sign up via VHF Kanal 69, the dinghi comes immediately and directs the yacht to her mooring.
Interesting is the fact that Lefkas is an island, but there is a bridge to the mainland (opens every hour for the passage of the yachts), so you can also explore the Greek mainland and the Peloponnese from here by car. In winter, the situation with flights is rather bad, you have to go by bus to Athens and can fly from there, which is partly long drawn, since the buses often arrive at times, where no aviator anymore, so you must stay overnight in Athens . This always changes again and again In the summer, Aktio, the small airport at Preveza, is an airport for arrivals and departures for sailors and tourists. It is 20km away from Lefkas on the mainland and is regularly driven by taxis
